TSKgel Alpha and SuperAW columns are composed of spherical, hydrophilic methacrylate beads. Unlike TSKgel PW/PWxl-type columns, which are stable up to 50% organic mixed with water, TSKgel Alpha and SuperAW columns are stable in a wide variety of organic solvents at concentrations up to 100%. Efficiency of all TSKgel Alpha and SuperAW columns is maintained when changing solvents from water via acetonitrile, DMF, DMSO, THF to HFIP.The main application area for TSKgel Alpha and SuperAW columns is the analysis of polymers that are soluble in polar organic solvents. Examples include cellulose derivatives, polyimide, and sodium dodecylsulfate (all in DMF with 10mmol/L DMF), cleansing gel in methanol, and degree of saponification of polyvinylalcohol in HFIP. The mixed-bed columns, TSKgel Alpha-M and SuperAWM-H, have an extended linear calibration range, and are suitable for samples with a broad MW distribution as well as samples with unknown molecular weight. Due to their smaller particle size, TSKgel SuperAW, rather than TSKgel Alpha, columns are preeferred for high efficiency and high speed analysis of polymers that are soluble in polar organic solvents.
